PRINCE & JEFF TRIO @ Quartier d'Afrique (04/07/2017) 20:30

Mandika fusion concert as part of the 10th edition of the "Quartier d'Afrique" festival.

The association Afrique en Vie organises the "Quartier d'Afrique" festival since 2008, getting associated with the off-site programme of the "Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie". Each year, a young African photographer in the making or a photographer working on Africa is displayed : in 2017, South-African photographer Nontsikelelo Veleko will be given pride of place. In the evening, over the four days of the event, various concerts showing the African and North African cultural diversity take place.

Between traditional Africa and the modernity of mixed sounds by these two artists with significant international careers, Prince Diabaté and Jeff Kellner invite us to a transcontinental journey from Conakry to Marseilles, thus remaining true to the melting pot of their cultures. The repertoire of their album "Faso" is an ensemble of compositions both traditional and pop, with incursions in blues and Western jazz. On stage, the presence of drummer Ahmad Compaoré brings a rhythmics with rock overtones. Drawing upon their diverse musical backgrounds and shared experience, the three musicians produce a new brand of rootsy West-African music, multi-faceted, of universal appeal.
