POTEAT, PETIT & COMPAORÉ (28/06/2012) 21:30
Concert as part of the solo European tour of American bassist Derek Poteat.
A proposal by La Boîte à Musique and La Machine à Coudre.
This creation will enable us to discover a never-before-seen trio proposing an electroacoustic set mixing improvisation and experimentation.
DEREK POTEAT: bass, effects
After playing in metal, rock and improvisational bands for over 10 years, bassist Derek Poteat became one of the founding members of the group Ahleuchatistas in 2003, along with guitarist Shane Perlowin and drummer Sean Dail. Ahleuchatistas quickly gained a reputation for complex songs and hyper-composed pieces in the field of experimental and avant garde music. In seven years within the band, Poteat released five recordings (of which two on John Zorn's Tzadik label) and played over 300 shows in North America and in Europe. Since leaving Ahleuchatistas in 2010, he moved towards improvisation, using the bass and effects to create a broad spectrum of sound, ranging from noise to contemplative sound experiments.

PHILIPPE PETIT: electric guitar
Marseilles-based musical activist striving for the recognition of experimental music, Philippe Petit is also an hyperactive "sound director". Particularly interested in film soundtracks, he'd rather be introduced as a "musical travel agent" than a composer. He regularly performs on stage with Murcof, Lydia Lunch or Faust, and has collaborated with such artists as Eugene Robinson, Edward Ka-Spel, Scott McCloud, My Brightest Diamond, Graham Lewis, Mira Calix, Leafcutter John, Simon Fisher Turner, Jarboe, etc... A figure from the French musical scene, he is active within his collective Strings Of Consciousness and he records his albums on various international labels.

AHMAD COMPAORÉ: drums, objects
Drummer, composer and rare improviser, Ahmad Compaoré is a musician of freedom. Of Egyptian and Burkinabé origins, he confirms his singular talent alongside musicians such as Fred Frith, Marc Ribot, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Otomo Yoshihide or Egyptian choreographer Karima Mansour. With a constant craving for exploration and discovery, he shares his creativeness between music, dance, theatre and digital art. Twice recipient of the Culturesfrance "Hors Les Murs" award, he lived in India and Japan as part of residencies of creation. Free from boundaries, he equally enjoys the most extreme experiences in experimental and improvised music, jazz and fusion...
