AHMAD COMPAORE QUINTET (Afrojazz) + FANGA (Afrobeat)

Of Egyptian and Burkinabé origins, Marseilles-based drummer and percussionist Ahmad Compaoré confirms his singular talent with Fred Frith, Marc Ribot, Otomo Yoshihide and Barre Phillips. Initiated in 2007, his quintet was born of the "Musique Rebelle" jam sessions organised by La Boîte à Musique and held at the Friche la Belle de Mai in Marseilles. The project took shape around the repertoire composed by Ahmad - mix of African grooves, unbridled jazz, soul, funk, Indian and oriental influences - and a part of improvisation exploring the subtlety of rhythms, forms and sounds for a music without borders..

Ahmad Compaoré (drums, percussions, compositions), Jeff Kellner (guitar), Sylvain Terminiello (electric bass, double bass), Raphaël Imbert (saxophones), Stéphane Mondésir (keyboards, programming).
